Case Study Six

Brief

  • Wanted something with clean lines and elegant

  • White Gold

  • Prefers Bezel set stones

  • Having already used four of the 13 diamonds from the client’s grandmother’s necklace in a pair of earrings (see Case Study One) and having used the largest diamond in a simple bezel set pendant, I was to use the remaining diamonds for these earrings.

Grandmother’s Necklace

At the same time as designing these earrings, I was also designing a Sapphire ring for the client (see Case Study Eight).

Both were to be worn at her daughter’s wedding that summer. The ring was to be designed around an antique sapphire that also belonged to her grandmother.

Given the perfect gradation of the diamonds and keeping with the client’s preferences doing drop earrings seemed the natural direction. Wanting to tie the earrings to the ring and adding a visual punch to the design I asked my gem dealer to match two round sapphires to the color of the antique sapphire being used in the ring.

Sketches and Renderings

All of the components for these earrings were handmade. It is not visible in the photography that there is linkage inside the bezels that enable the gems to move independently of each other there by allowing them to dance with light as she moves.
