The something different was the use of an Asscher Cut Diamond. Although people think it is a modern cut it is actually an antique cut created in 1902 by Joseph Asscher. These coveted diamonds were almost impossible to find until the 2000s when his descendants licensed them to be cut again. The cut creates a Hall of Mirrors effect and must be cut by a master diamond cutter to achieve perfect symmetry. The diamond itself must be of the highest quality as well because any and all imperfections will be visible.
The surprise was placing the diamonds on the side of the band. From the top view it looks like a clean platinum band however as the wearer moves her hand all the diamonds on the side reveal themselves. These coupled with the diamonds on the basket achieved the request of something with sparkle.
